Spatial Slip Rate Distribution Along the SE Xianshuihe Fault, Eastern Tibet, and Earthquake Hazard Assessment

چکیده
The Xianshuihe (XSH) fault in eastern Tibet is one of the most active faults China, with next large earthquake likely to occur along its SE part, where splits into three parallel branches: Yalahe, Selaha and Zheduotang (ZDT). Precisely quantifying their slip rates at various timescales essential evaluate regional hazard. Here, we expand our previous work on nearby ZDT Moxi (MX) faults, add observations Yalahe newly discovered Mugecuo South zone. Using tectonic-geomorphology approaches 10Be dating, had previously determined average late Quaternary 9.75 ± 0.15 4.4 0.5 mm/yr NW fault, respectively. same methods here, determine a rate 3.4–4.8 9.6–13.4 MX fault. This consistent southeastward increase proposed XSH system from 6-8 (Ganzi fault) ?10 (Selaha fault), >9.6 (MX fault). We propose new model for large-scale pull-apart basin lies within an even larger scale compressive uplift zone restraining bend highest peak located (Gongga Shan, 7,556 m). Our determination helps constrain relatively high Mw ? 7 hazard present

متن کاملFault slip in the 1997 Manyi, Tibet earthquake from linear elastic modelling of InSAR displacements
S U M M A R Y The Mw 7.6 1997 Manyi earthquake occurred in an area of central northern Tibet where sparse vegetation coverage and a lack of human habitation provide excellent conditions for Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) studies. We use coseismic pairs of radar images acquired by the ESA ERS-2 satellite to construct interferograms of the surface displacement field due to the e...
متن کاملCoseismic Deformation and Slip Distribution of the 1997 Mw7.5 Manyi, Tibet, Earthquake from InSAR Measurements
We use interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) observations to investigate the coseismic deformation and slip distribution of the 1997 Mw7.5 Manyi earthquake, a left-lateral strike-slip earthquake occurred on the west portion of the Kunlun fault in the northern Tibet, China. The fault trace is constrained by the combination of interferometric coherence image and azimuth offset image. T...
متن کاملoffsets along the doruneh fault; implications for dating sampling sites and slip rate determination
the doruneh fault is one of the longest and most prominent faults in iran. however, only two recorded historical earthquakes with magnitudes more than 7 might be related to this fault. for getting more information on this fault more investigation in different fields are required. fault displacement is one of the most important parameters needed to explore the fault activity. in this study, with...
متن کاملLateral Offset Quality Rating along Low Slip Rate Faults: Application to the Alhama de Murcia Fault (SE Iberian Peninsula)
Seismic hazard assessment of strike-slip faults is based partly on the identification and mapping of landforms laterally offset due to fault activity. The characterization of these features affected by slow-moving faults is challenging relative to studies emphasizing rapidly slipping faults. We propose a methodology for scoring fault offsets based on subjective and objective qualities. We apply...
